Two nests with queens formed unsuccessful worker satellites that were never joined by other workers. One nest had three worker satellites; another had one queen satellite and four worker satellites. Considering only the first satellite formed by a given nest, only 2 of 17 satellites were initiated by workers when the queen was alive; the rest were initiated by the queen herself. Again considering only the first satellites formed by nests, 5 of 7 worker satellites were formed after the queen had died.

Workers from six nests with queen-initiated satellites began satellites about three weeks after queen satellite initiation. Five nests lacking queens began worker satellites; two nests with queens formed worker satellites. Two nests with queens formed unsuccessful worker satellites that were never joined by other workers.
